SMS Templates are text messages that can be customised to communicate information to your Attendees, Sponsors, and Staff. These templates can be edited and scheduled to be sent out via Campaigns within Jomablue.

Users can create SMS Templates for various purposes including e-Tickets, Sessions, Touchpoints, and General SMS Templates. These messages are delivered promptly and typically include a call to action.

Create SMS Templates

Selecting the type of SMS Template

Templates are created and applied to the current event. To create a new SMS Template, log in to Jomablue, navigate to Event Configuration > Templates, and click on the New SMS button located at the top-right of the page.

The types of SMS Templates in Jomablue include:

  • Event General: Used to send general SMS messages to your Attendees for marketing, informational, or other purposes
  • Session Check-in *: Used to generate the SMS message that an Attendee receives upon checking in to a Session
  • e-Ticket *: Used to send SMS messages containing the link to Attendees' e-Ticket
  • Touchpoint *: Used to generate the SMS messages sent to an Attendee upon tapping their Smart Badge on a Touchpoint
  • Survey *: Used to send SMS messages containing a link to the post-event Survey received by Attendees after the Event

    * Typically only used for in-person events

Creating a new SMS Template

To create the desired SMS Template type, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Template Type via the radio selector
  2. Enter a meaningful Name for your Template in the Name field, following the Tips and Tricks section below
  3. Fill in the Body content of your SMS Template in the Body field, keeping an eye on the character count. Try to limit the message to 1 SMS per recipient.
  4. Verify that the Preview section displays your Template correctly, then click Save at the top-right corner of the page

Notes:

  • e-Ticket Template: the e-Ticket URL will be included in the message and will count towards the character limit - allow for 20 characters for the e-Ticket URL
  • Survey Template: the Survey URL will also be included in the message, and should leave room for 20 characters for the Survey URL

Tips and Tricks:

When naming your Template, include descriptive details for quick recognition. For example:

  • Registration Reminder - 7 days prior
  • Know Before You Go - Delegates
  • e-Ticket - Staff
  • e-Ticket - Delegates
  • Survey post-event
  • Survey reminder - 2 days after

Merge Tag availability

For each Template type, a number of variables can be inserted into the Body of the SMS Template. These available variables will be shown below the character counter and will be replaced with the appropriate text for each SMS sent. For example:

  • In an Event General SMS, *PERSON_FIRST_NAME*, *PERSON_LAST_NAME*, and *PERSON_COMPANY* will be replaced with the Person’s first name, last name, and company upon event check-in
  • In a Session check-in SMS, *SESSION_NAME* will be replaced with the name of the Session, and *PERSON_FIRST_NAME* will show the first name of the Person checking in.
  • In a Touchpoint SMS, *PERSON_FIRST_NAME* will be replaced with the Person’s first name upon tapping their Smart Badge on a Touchpoint

Adding these variables will insert personalised content into the text messages you send and can improve user engagement.

Archive SMS Templates

After an event or when you need to remove a Template that's no longer needed, you can archive it. To do this, simply press the Archive button located on the right side of the record. If you want to view and restore archived Templates, toggle the Show Archived button.

Additional notes

  • Custom SMS Sender IDs for communications must be configured prior to the event. For additional information see the article: SMS and Email Sender IDs.
  • The Type of Template will be displayed in the list of available Templates.
  • It is recommended to limit your SMS content to 1 SMS message per recipient. While entering the content in the Body field, a counter will display the estimated character count and the number of SMS messages per recipient. Please note that the character limit for most SMS types is 160 characters.
